Why University Park picks us

We're not just a DFW landscaper. We're your landscaper.

Park Cities standards.

Same exacting tree-protection, setback, and material rules as Highland Park. We work them. Every install is UP-compliant before the crew arrives.

Shade-heavy yards.

UP's mature canopy means a lot of yards never see full sun. We pick the grass cultivar that actually roots in your specific shade level and we say so honestly when ground cover or beds are the better call.

In-house Loera team.

Family business since 2010. Omar walks every property to scope the work himself.

Weekly lawn care and sod across University Park

University Park is the other half of the Park Cities, SMU-adjacent and full of generational lots. We run weekly lawn care across UP: the SMU Boulevard blocks, Hyer Park, Curtis Park, Caruth Park, Hillcrest, Mockingbird Park, the Snider Plaza area, and Goar Park. Every visit is the full routine: mow at the right height for the season, edge every bed, walk, and drive, line-trim the fence lines and the tree rings, and blow every hard surface clean. Bed care, hedging, and seasonal cleanups are part of the plan, not an upsell. We hold a fixed University Park route day so your lawn is cut the same day each week. When a thin or shaded area needs fresh sod, we handle the install on the same property. We also do landscaping in UP, but lawn care and sod are the core of what we run on these blocks.

Shade-heavy University Park yards and the clay underneath

University Park's mature canopy means a lot of yards never see full sun. Pecans and live oaks that have stood for decades shade the older lots around Hyer Park, Caruth Park, and the SMU-adjacent streets, and that shade is the single biggest factor in what grass will take. Under it sits Blackland Prairie Houston Black clay, heavy and expansive, with established tree roots competing for every bit of water. Before we lay sod we read the light across the day and grade and prep the thin spots so new turf has a base that drains and roots instead of sitting wet under the canopy. On a shade-heavy UP lot the honest answer is sometimes that grass will not hold in the deepest pockets, and a ground cover or a planting bed is the better call. We tell you that up front rather than re-sodding the same dead patch every spring.

Park Cities standards and tree protection in University Park

University Park enforces the same exacting standards as Highland Park: setback rules, material requirements, and strict tree-protection ordinances written to protect the mature canopy that defines the town. For lawn care and sod that means any work near a protected tree has to respect its critical root zone, and the front-yard condition is expected to stay sharp year-round. We work those rules. Every install is UP-compliant before the crew arrives, and the approvals and submittals are part of the estimate at no charge. Omar walks the property and scopes the work himself so the plan fits both the town's standards and what neighbors on these blocks expect. If the city or your board needs a written scope, we provide it before the first visit, not after a violation notice shows up in the mail.

Watering rules and shade grass in University Park

University Park follows the Dallas-area twice-a-week watering schedule most years, on days assigned by address, and new sod gets a temporary 30-day variance while it establishes. For lawns already in the ground, we raise mowing height in July and August so the grass shades its own roots and stretches the moisture between the two allowed days. Then it comes down to grass selection, which in UP almost always means choosing for shade. St. Augustine handles the deepest shade under the pecans and live oaks, Palisades Zoysia works where some sun breaks through the canopy, and Bermuda only belongs in genuine full sun, which is less common here than most homeowners assume. We match the cultivar to the real light on your specific lot so the sod that goes down is the sod that lasts through a North Texas summer.

University Park FAQ

Real questions, real answers.

Do you serve all of University Park?

Yes — anywhere inside UP city limits, from Hyer Park to SMU-adjacent blocks to Hillcrest.

Best grass for shade-heavy UP yards?

St. Augustine for the deepest shade. Palisades Zoysia where some sun gets through. Bermuda only where there's genuine full sun (rarer here than you'd think).

UP permitting?

Same Park Cities tree-protection and material standards as Highland Park. We handle the paperwork as part of every estimate.

Watering rules?

UP follows Dallas-area Stage 1 watering — twice a week on assigned days. New sod gets a 30-day variance.

Do I need to be home when the crew comes?

No. Most yards on our route get serviced while the owners are at work. If we need gate access we'll sort it out up front, and the crew closes gates and blows off clippings before moving on.

How do I know what was actually done each visit?

Every visit is the full service: mow, edge, line-trim, and blow-down, not a rotating menu. You'll see it in the mow lines and the clean walks. If you ever want to know what we did or why, text us and you'll get a straight answer.

What happens when rain pushes my service day?

North Texas rain happens. When a storm makes the yard unworkable, your visit slides to the next dry day instead of being skipped for the week. If you're ever unsure whether we're coming, a quick text gets you an answer.
