Mature-tree work.
Park Cities yards are defined by their canopies. Bermuda doesn't survive under a hundred-year live oak — we know which Zoysia and St. Augustine cultivars actually root in deep shade and we won't sell you grass that won't make it.
Heritage standards.
Highland Park has explicit setback, tree-protection, and material rules. We work them. Every install is HP-compliant before the first piece of sod hits the ground.
Crew accountability.

Weekly lawn care and sod across Highland Park
Highland Park is the Park Cities, and the lawns here have been cared for across generations. We run weekly lawn care throughout HP: Old Highland Park, the Highland Park Village area, Beverly Drive, Volk Estates, Drexel Drive, Armstrong Parkway, and the blocks around Lemmon Park and Crescent. Every visit is the full routine: mow at the right height for the season, edge every bed, walk, and drive, line-trim the fence lines and the tree rings under the big oaks, and blow every surface clean. Bed care, hedging, and seasonal cleanups are part of the plan. We hold a fixed Highland Park route day so your lawn is cut the same day each week, which matters on blocks where neighbors notice fast. When a shaded or worn area needs fresh sod, we handle the install on the same property. We also do full landscaping in HP, but lawn care and sod are the core of what we run here.
Mature canopy, heritage lots, and the soil under Highland Park
Highland Park is defined by its canopy: hundred-year live oaks and pecans shading older, established estates, with very little of the yard ever seeing full sun. Under that canopy the soil is Blackland Prairie Houston Black clay, heavy and expansive, and decades of mature root systems make it even more demanding to establish new turf. The two challenges stack: deep shade limits which grass survives, and dense tree roots compete with sod for water and space. Before we lay anything, we read the shade through the day and grade and prep the bare or thin areas so new sod has a base that drains and roots. On heritage HP lots the honest answer is sometimes that a stretch of deep shade will not hold turf at all, and a shade-tolerant ground cover or a bed is the right call. We say so rather than sell grass that will not make it.
Heritage standards and tree protection in Highland Park
Highland Park has explicit, enforced standards: setback rules, material requirements, and some of the strictest tree-protection ordinances in the region, built to safeguard the live oaks and pecans that give the town its character. For lawn care and sod that means the work around protected trees has to respect critical root zones, and any change near them is done carefully. We work those rules. Every sod install is HP-compliant before the first piece hits the ground, and the approvals and submittals are part of the estimate at no charge. Omar walks the property and scopes the work himself so the plan fits both the town's standards and the estate-tier expectations of the block. If your HOA or the town needs a written scope, we provide it up front, not after a notice.
Watering rules and shade-grass selection in Highland Park
Highland Park follows the Dallas-area twice-a-week watering schedule most years, on days assigned by address, and new sod gets a temporary 30-day variance while it roots. For established lawns we raise mowing height in July and August so the grass shades its own roots and holds moisture between the two allowed days. Grass choice is the real decision in HP, because so much of the town sits under a mature canopy. St. Augustine is the answer for the deepest shade under the live oaks and pecans, Palisades Zoysia works where some morning sun gets through, and Bermuda only earns a spot in the genuine full-sun areas, which are rarer here than homeowners expect. We match the cultivar to the actual light on your lot, section by section, so the lawn that goes in is the lawn that survives the summer.
