What Does a Backyard Hardscape Project Look Like in DFW? — Loera's Landscaping DFW blog

A backyard hardscape project in DFW is the hard-surface side of your yard: flagstone patios, decomposed-granite walkways, paver paths, stone borders, and pool surrounds. The work runs in three stages. Demo and base prep, then the build, then cleanup and finish. On heavy North Texas clay, the base prep is the part that decides whether the patio lasts twenty years or cracks in three.

It Starts With the Base, Not the Stone

North Texas sits on expansive clay that swells when it is wet and shrinks when it is dry. That movement is what lifts and cracks a patio that was rushed. We excavate to proper depth, build the base up in compacted lifts, and plan drainage before a single stone goes down. The part you never see is the part that holds everything level.

Walkways: Decomposed Granite, Pavers, and Flagstone

Most backyards need a way to get from A to B without crossing mud or grass that never recovers. Decomposed granite with concrete stepping stones is a clean, budget-friendly path. Flagstone reads more natural and pairs well with planting beds. Pavers give you the tightest, most modular look and are the easiest to repair if a tree root ever shifts one.

Estate-Scale: Pool Surrounds and Full Backyards

Larger projects tie the whole yard together: a flagstone patio that wraps the pool, a granite path connecting the seating areas, and stone borders that keep beds and turf separate. These take more crew and a longer window, and we scope them in person so the quote matches the real site, not a guess.

What It Costs

As a rough guide in DFW, paver patios run about eighteen to twenty-eight dollars per square foot installed, and flagstone walkways start around twenty-two dollars per square foot. The number moves with access, materials, and how much demo and grading the yard needs. We give a fixed quote after walking it, not a moving target.

How to Start

The first step is a free on-site estimate. Omar walks the property, talks through materials and how you want to use the space, and quotes within forty-eight hours. Get a free hardscape quote or see more work in the gallery.
